Solo show. West gallery. Quay arts. 7/12/24 ~ 25/1/25

These pieces are made from familiar domestic materials and objects, reformed into another existence; making the familiar, unfamiliar. They are inspired as much by my walking along our fragile coast as Flann O’Brien’s fictional common sense philosopher, De Selby. Both of which foster in me an inventive way to explain the world.

Some works hold a moment of falling or bursting open, others show a build up over time. Each piece of work merges the changes in the fabric of the world with the fabric of our homes. The stability of which we take for granted and where change can be both devastating or wonderful.

I conceived the exhibition to be a whole gallery installation where the architecture of the space enabled zoning for pairs of forms linked by material and/or formal elements. I wanted the viewer to encounter surprises when engaging with the work. I kept the lighting at the level of near to that which may be given by interior lamps or spotlights giving it a warmth and enhancing the intended drama of each piece.
